These feeding tubes are among the smallest available for safely feeding orphaned wildlife. Manufactured in an FDA- and ISO-certified facility, they are produced to human-grade standards while intended for animal use.
Designed for reliability and ease of use, these tubes are durable and arrive EO gas sterilized and ready for immediate use. No washing is required before first use.
Peculiar Purple Possum focuses on feeding tubes designed for orphaned wildlife and neonatal animals. Their products are developed to provide practical, appropriately sized tools for safely feeding very small mammals during early stages of development.
The line began with an ultra-small feeding tube and has expanded to include a range of sizes to support different species and growth stages.
- Luer-lock connector prevents detachment and leaks under pressure
- Single lumen design helps reduce the risk of fluid aspiration
- Clear tubing allows easy monitoring of formula flow
- Built-in tube clip enables safe, leak-free removal between feedings
- Manufactured in a facility specializing in human feeding tubes
- EO gas sterilized for convenience and safety
- 1.8 FR: Appropriate for opossums under 25g; requires use of a 200 micron strainer such as a coffee filter to prevent clogging
- 2.8 FR: Appropriate for opossums 25g and up; suitable for a wide range of small wildlife
- 3.5 FR: Ideal for larger opossums, kittens, and small breed newborn puppies
- 4.0 FR: Larger size for animals that can safely accommodate increased tube diameter
- Larger sizes may be used for other species where anatomy allows safe tube feeding
- Always measure and mark the correct tube length before feeding
- Check the tube for any defects or blockages prior to use
- Lubricate the tube with a very thin film of coconut or olive oil.
- Wipe off all excess. If you can see it, there is too much
- Ensure all formula is properly filtered before use. An ~80 micron filter such as a paper coffee filter helps prevent clogging
- Draw formula into the syringe first, then attach the feeding tube
- For very small animals (under 20g), use a highly diluted formula (approximately 5:1). Full-strength formula may not pass through a 1.8 FR tube
- Insert the tube gently and never force it
- Confirm proper placement before administering formula
- Feed slowly and monitor the animal closely during feeding
- Keep all equipment clean and properly stored between uses
- Tube feeding is a delicate procedure and should only be performed by individuals trained and experienced in proper technique.
- Incorrect placement or use can result in serious injury or death. Always proceed slowly and use caution when feeding.
